Panthers get a win

After a summer of questioning weather or not there would be football this fall, 71,936 people show up to a wet Bank of America stadium to get a preview of the Carolina Panthers and New York "football" Giants. The performance and outcome of this preseason game is what shocked most.

The offense looked good for most of the night, minus the pick six from Clausen, and the fumbles from running back Mike Goodson, the Panthers offense moved down the field very well despite being the worst ranked offense last year. Clausen's touchdown pass to tight end Greg Olsen was superb. It's easy to understand now why people say Olsen has hands of a different kind. Olsen snagged the ball while surrounded by two defenders and simply walked into the end zone as if nobody was around him. Running backs Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart looked to be healthy and on track to have break out years. If the offensive line can stay healthy expect double trouble to put up big numbers this year, and don't forget about Tyrell Sutton and Mike Goodson.

My foot is in my mouth when I speak of Cam Newton, the Panthers No. 1 draft pick out of auburn. The pick was questionable at first but it seem the panthers knew what they were getting when they selected Newton. His performance was excellent for a rookie. He didn't turn the ball over once and had some nice throws. Newton also had some bad throws. He over threw wide receiver Armanti Edwards who was open and two steps away from the end zone. Newton also showed his strength. The Giants blitzed and he shook the first defender with a little move but got caught by the second only to have him struggle to take down Newton. Newton got up after the hit and had that franchise smile on his face.

Our defense looked very solid despite having numerous people on the sidelines. Charles "Big Money" Johnson was out as well as team captain Jon Beason. The defense stopped the run and did a average job covering receivers. Cornerbacks Chris Gamble and Captain Munnerlyn were both out with injuries leaving a already weak position very vulnerable. The blitzes that we used were great, they really take advantage of every player on the defense. Safety Jordan Pugh had a smashing sack in the third quarter.

My game ball would go to wide receiver Armanti Edwards. Edwards showed much improvment throughout the night not only as a receiver but as a punt returner too.

The whole scheme of things in the Panthers organization has changed and it seems to be for the best. Watching third downs will not be decided by a draw play anymore, and our tight ends are no longer blockers, but actual receivers who can make big plays.

This is only a preseason game that means absolutely nothing, but if the panthers can play like this on a Sunday , we panther fans might be in for a watchable season. Thy won't make the playoffs, but it will be fun to watch because we wan't to win vs. relying on the defense and kicking field goals to win in the fourth quarter.

#1 Draft PIck is.....

I hope its not Cam Newton. What a buster. He lost his credibility with me when he started throwing passes the combine. What a idiot. He didn't even hit any of his targets or come close. If we waste our first pick on a quarterback that can't even throw the ball might as well go ahead and wrap the season up for a repeat of last year. I hope these panthers wise  up and pick someone with talent or trade down and get a veteran quaterback like Kolb, or Mcnabb.

How Embarrassing

Why would the Charlotte observer have this on the cover of the sports page. As if the sports around here aren't bad enough already. This is insulting as a reader of the Charlotte observer. This just goes to show that the writers think so low of our teams that they show this. Show a little compassion for your hometown NBA team. Wonder what Gerald Wallace thought of this. If I were him this would make me want to be traded. The city betrayed him by putting this on the cover of the sports page.

1-6 dosnt cut it

The panthers had yet another loss yesterday due part to our horrible offense. If you cant score a touchdown how do you expect to win. its not all Matt Moore's fault but he didn't have a very good game. Steve Smith's dropped passes and a fumble definitely didn't help. I never want to see him on the sidelines complaining again. For someone to be on his level as a athlete he sure did give up some big plays yesterday. Johnathan Stewart looked like Deshawn Foster from a few years back. Running sideways will not get you a first down or a touchdown. Follow your blockers son. Your suppose to be a big time back in this league yet you didn't even get 50yds yesterday against the Rams. Defense played good. Can't put any blame on them they came out and did their job. I think it's time for Jeff Davidson to pack his bags and go somewhere else. What a terrible offensive coordinator. The best the panthers can do now is go 9-6. They must win out which probably won't happen. Good lick finding a job next season John Fox. Losing records don't look good in this league.

0-4 Panthers

If your a fan you might as well count the playoffs out. Unless the panthers win out there is no chance in hell we will make the playoffs. We might be lucky to win one game. We showed many improvments againt New Orleans but now that Steve Smith is out we could be worse off than ever before. Im gonna go ahead and say that our season is over before it began and look foward to getting a new coach and hopefully, if Jerry Richardson is wise, a new offensive coordinator. John Fox is out and I can't wait till that day. I wish it would happen this week but  I know how Mr. Richardson is and he wouldn't do that. Here is a brighter note, the Bobcats will start soon so hopefully they csn bring a win to the city of charlotte. The panthers sure don't know how to

Week 1 Preview Panthers vs Giants

Week 1 for the NFL is finally here. What a horrible preseason all of the panther fans had to go through. Lets hope the regular season goes a little better. This weeks match up against the giants should be a good game. Panther fans don't get down on your team yet just because of a sloppy preseason. The Giants didn't do much better themselves. On to the game. The panthers we be returning two starters that had no playing time during the preseason, Steve Smith, and Johnathan Stewart. Your best receiver is back and one of the best backs in the league is back as well. Lets also not forget that the pass game did struggle in the preseason for the panthers but the run game was hardly seen. We all know John Fox will run the ball every chance he can so look for a heavy dose of good hard hitting running. The defense looked good throughout the preseason so expect the same intensity from them. My pick is Carolina(could it be I'm a fan.). Good luck Panthers.
